Gareth Southgate has explained the absence of Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson from England’s provisional Euro 2024 squad.
Southgate named a preliminary 33-man roster, which will be trimmed to 26 players for the tournament in Germany this summer.
But despite their experience and past contributions, Rashford and Henderson did not make the cut.
Southgate addressed the media, explaining the reasons behind the players' omissions.
“These are difficult calls,” he stated. “With Marcus, I just feel other players in that area have had better seasons. It’s as simple as that.”
Rashford had an outstanding season with Manchester United in 2022/23 and performed well at the World Cup in Qatar, scoring against Iran and Wales.
However, he struggled this season, managing just eight goals in 42 appearances across all competitions.
