Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and pundit Jamie Redknapp has launched a scathing critique of Manchester United and their under-fire manager Erik ten Hag.
Redknapp described Manchester United's current state as both “disgusting” and “embarrassing,” following their 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. The defeat has cast even more doubt over Ten Hag’s ability to steer the team in the right direction amidst growing concerns over the club’s trajectory.
Speaking candidly during a post-match analysis on Sky Sports, Redknapp didn’t hold back in his assessment of the situation, stating, “Ten Hag has spent £616 million in just two years, and the club is still moving backwards. It’s embarrassing for a team of this magnitude to be performing at such a low level.”
He went on to argue that Ten Hag can no longer hide behind any excuses and needs to take full responsibility for the club’s poor performances. “These are his players, his defense, and everything that is happening now falls squarely on his shoulders. They’ve hit rock bottom,” he added.
The heavy loss to Spurs unfolded in dramatic fashion, as Tottenham took an early lead through Brennan Johnson just three minutes into the game. The uphill battle for United only intensified as they struggled to find their footing throughout the match.
United's fate was sealed when their captain, Bruno Fernandes, was shown a red card shortly before halftime, leaving the team a man down for the remainder of the match. Tottenham capitalized on United’s vulnerabilities, with Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke adding to Spurs’ tally, securing a resounding victory for manager Ange Postecoglou’s side.
The defeat marks yet another significant blow for Manchester United as questions surrounding Ten Hag’s managerial capabilities continue to mount. The loss also intensifies pressure on both the manager and the team to find solutions as they navigate through a turbulent season in the Premier League.
