Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have officially announced the termination of Christophe Galtier's contract as head coach after just one season in charge. The decision was communicated to the 56-year-old at the end of the campaign. The French champions have been engaged in settlement discussions with Galtier for the past few weeks, while Luis Enrique has been identified as his replacement at Parc des Princes. The appointment of the former Barcelona and Spain manager is expected to be unveiled at the new PSG Campus training facility later today.

According to a statement released by the club, "Paris Saint-Germain and Christophe Galtier have decided to terminate his contract as coach of the first team. Everyone at Paris Saint-Germain thanks Christophe Galtier, as well as his assistants Thierry Oleksiak and Joao Sacramento, for their professionalism and commitment over the course of the season and wishes them the best in their future careers."

Following their World Cup campaign, PSG experienced a decline in form, suffering 10 losses in 28 games in 2023. The team had remained unbeaten in all competitions before the European season was interrupted for the World Cup in Qatar. The title race was saved by Kylian Mbappé's league-leading 29 goals, with PSG managing to retain the title by a single point ahead of underdog Lens, with only one game remaining. However, the team's final match ended in a 3-2 defeat against Clermont, exposing significant weaknesses in the midfield and defense that had been masked by Mbappé's scoring prowess.

In addition to the underwhelming performances of his star-studded team, Galtier faced additional challenges due to allegations of racist and anti-Muslim comments made during his tenure at French club Nice. He has been summoned to stand trial in December as part of an ongoing investigation.
