Manchester United’s latest addition, Patrick Dorgu, has officially joined the club on a deal reportedly worth around £40,000 per week. This salary places him among the lowest-paid players in the Red Devils’ first-team squad despite his high potential and promising future in football.
The 20-year-old left wing-back was formally unveiled at Old Trafford just before United’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace last Sunday, marking his introduction to the club’s supporters.
Manchester United secured Dorgu’s signature from Italian club Lecce, agreeing to pay an initial £25 million for the Danish talent. Additionally, the deal includes performance-related add-ons that could see the total transfer fee rise by another £4 million.
Despite being regarded as a rising star, Dorgu’s weekly wage remains significantly lower than most of his new teammates, making him one of the least-earning first-team players at the club.
Currently, only goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo earn less than Dorgu. Meanwhile, third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton takes home a slightly higher salary at £45,000 per week, while emerging star Alejandro Garnacho earns £50,000 weekly.
Even experienced center-back Jonny Evans, who returned to Manchester United on a short-term contract, is on a significantly higher wage of £65,000 per week, which further highlights the pay gap between Dorgu and his senior teammates.
Manchester United made room for Dorgu’s arrival by offloading two of their highest-earning players during the January transfer window, freeing up significant funds on their wage bill.
One of the most notable departures was Marcus Rashford, who completed a move to Aston Villa. Although United agreed to subsidize up to 90% of his substantial £325,000 per week salary, the move helped reduce financial strain on the club.
Similarly, Brazilian winger Antony secured a transfer to Real Betis, with the Spanish club agreeing to cover at least 84% of his £200,000 weekly wages, further easing Manchester United’s financial commitments.
