Manchester United is currently in the market for a new goalkeeper, and they have shown keen interest in Feyenoord's shot-stopper, Justin Bijlow, as a potential alternative to Inter Milan's Andre Onana.
Despite Manchester United's burning desire to secure a deal for Andre Onana, there are suggestions that they might be priced out of the move for the Inter Milan goalkeeper. It appears that Onana is content staying with Inter, but Erik ten Hag, United's manager, is eager to bring his former player to the Premier League as a long-term replacement for David de Gea.
However, negotiations with Inter have proven to be complex, with the Champions League finalists standing firm in their transfer discussions. In an effort to push the deal forward, United's director of football operations, David Harrison, traveled to Ibiza for face-to-face talks with Inter's sporting director, Piero Ausilio. Yet, rumors indicate that United could potentially abandon the Onana pursuit altogether.
In light of this situation, Manchester United has reached out to Feyenoord regarding the possibility of signing Justin Bijlow. The 25-year-old Dutch goalkeeper is known for his impressive performance, recording 15 clean sheets in the previous season. He is viewed as a more cost-effective option compared to Inter Milan's Andre Onana, although no concrete bid has been made yet.
Manchester United's financial strategy is also a factor in their pursuit of a goalkeeper. With Financial Fair Play (FFP) constraints in place, they are operating with a net spend of around £100 million for the entire transfer window. Having already agreed to a £60 million fee for Chelsea's Mason Mount, the budget is limited for further acquisitions.
As a result, Bijlow finds himself in a more prominent position on United's target list as they seek to find a suitable replacement for David de Gea. The Spaniard has been a long-serving player at the club and remains one of the few players in the dressing room to have experienced Premier League success with Manchester United.
Justin Bijlow is currently a senior international with the Netherlands national team, boasting eight caps to his name. He was also part of Louis Van Gaal's 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar, although he did not make an appearance during the tournament.
