Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen was among the high-profile figures who attended the funeral of the club’s late team doctor, Carles Miñarro Garcia, who tragically passed away in his sleep on Saturday afternoon.
The solemn ceremony took place on Tuesday at a cemetery in the Port Olimpic area of Barcelona, drawing a significant presence from the club’s leadership and members of the football community.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta led the delegation, accompanied by Director of Football Deco, Vice-President Rafa Yuste, and assistant Bojan Krkic, all of whom paid their respects to the beloved team doctor.
In addition to Barcelona’s representatives, a full delegation from city rivals Espanyol was also present at the funeral to offer their condolences and pay their final respects to Miñarro.
The unexpected loss of Miñarro deeply affected the Barcelona squad and led to the postponement of their La Liga fixture against Osasuna as a mark of respect.
Barcelona will return to competitive action on Tuesday evening when they face Benfica in the Champions League Round of 16.
As part of their tribute to Miñarro, the team will wear black armbands during the match, and UEFA has officially sanctioned a minute of silence before kickoff to honor his memory.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick spoke about the emotional toll of losing a key member of their medical team but stressed the team’s determination to secure victory in Miñarro’s honor, dedicating their performance to his legacy and contributions to the club.
