Antoine Griezmann, the iconic French midfielder and one of the standout footballers of his generation, has made the decision to retire from international football at the age of 33, ending a glorious chapter in his career.

The announcement, which came on Monday, took many by surprise as the midfielder had been a key figure in the national team for nearly a decade. With 137 caps to his name, Griezmann scored an impressive 44 goals for the French national team, positioning him fourth on France’s all-time scoring list, trailing only legends Olivier Giroud, Thierry Henry, and current star Kylian Mbappé.

Griezmann’s international career was filled with triumphs, most notably his instrumental role in France’s 2018 World Cup victory. His unforgettable goal in the final against Croatia, where he calmly converted a penalty, secured his place in French football history.

Additionally, Griezmann was a vital part of the squad that lifted the 2020/2021 UEFA Nations League trophy, further cementing his status as one of the most accomplished players to don the French tricolor.
