Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino is reportedly set to join La Liga giants Barcelona upon the expiration of his current deal at Anfield in a few months. The 31-year-old, who will become a free agent in June, has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool this season following the signings of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.
According to reports, Barcelona has won the race for Firmino’s signature, with the Mail reporting that the former Hoffenheim star will join Xavi’s side. Barcelona, who are facing financial troubles, want to strengthen their attack without breaking the bank, and Robert Lewandowski is currently their only recognised striker.
Firmino signed for £29 million from Hoffenheim in 2015 and scored 109 goals in 360 appearances during his time at Anfield. He has been a staple part of Liverpool’s success, winning the Champions League twice, the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, and the Club World Cup during his eight-year spell.
