In the early hours of this morning Dr Dolor frontwoman Teni dropped her first body of work since her coming into the industry which is an EP titled Quarantine Playlist. Music lovers have been pining for a body of work from the Power Rangers crooner. Earlier in the year she promised an album that will drop later in the year. It seems this EP is to wet the appetite of her fans and show them what to expect in her album. She features world-famous Dj Neptune on all 4 tracks in the EP. It is made up of Afro-pop, R&B and Trap, graced with warm, amorous vocals. She takes advantage of the current isolation situation to drop the project, following in the footsteps of Obesere, Odunsi, Casper Nyovest, Imarkkeyz and others who have released songs about isolation, quarantine and staying low these Corona times. The EP is also a big opportunity to cash out as many people are at home, bored and lonely. The EP is produced by P-Prime, Dera The Boy and Tempoe.
The tracks are all similar but if listened to carefully, it can be discovered that they treat different topics but these topics all circle around the subject of love which is the theme of the EP. We see Teni being poetic, we see Teni pining for the attention of her lover during the lockdown and finally we see Teni being possessive.
Morning:
Afro-pop, R&B
In a bit similar to that of Adekunle Gold’s Jore, she starts off by drawing inspiration from Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown’s No Air. She showers praises on her lover gushing over the little things that makes her love the whole person whilst promising to be loyal always, “love you in the Morning, love you in the night, love you all the time”. This shows Teni the poet.
Isolate:
Afro-pop, R&B
In Isolate she starts off by biting off a part of Fireboy’s Vibration, then spitting it out at interludes. She expresses her desire to have lover at home with her always during these hard times, instead of saying “Netflix and chill” she changes it to “Quarantine and Chill”. This shows Teni the poet, Teni the pine and Teni being the possessive lover.
Lockdown:
Afro-pop, R&B, Soul Trap
In Lockdown she misses her lover who she has not been able to see because of the isolation. She wants to see him badly, “I wanna see you right now”, “we can catch long flights”. This shows Teni the pine.
Mine:
Afro-pop, R&B, Soul Trap
She starts off with some poetry then switches to pidgin sampling Tekno’s poor ‘mathematics’ line in her own words. She shows her versatility playing with full brown Trap, sounding like the likes of 24hrs then quickly switching to Yoruba whilst keeping the message throughout the song which is telling her lover that he is she’s. This shows Teni the pine and the possessive lover.
