A 32-year-old woman, Riyanatu Musa, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly stabbing a barman, Yohanna Musa, to death over a N200 debt in Yola, the state capital. The tragic incident has shocked the local community and drawn attention to a fatal dispute over a small sum of money.
This development was disclosed in an official statement released by the spokesperson for the Adamawa Police Command, Suleiman Nguroje. According to Nguroje, the suspect, who is known to be a sex worker, was involved in a violent altercation with the deceased, leading to the tragic outcome. The altercation began over a N200 balance for liquor that Riyanatu Musa had bought from Yohanna Musa earlier that day.
The statement went on to reveal the details of the crime, with Riyanatu Musa allegedly confessing to the police that she had initially purchased dry gin, specifically a brand known as ‘big ben’ and ‘Yahoo’, from the victim. She had promised to settle the remaining balance of N200 the following day, after paying a sum of N1,500 for the liquor. However, a confrontation ensued, which quickly escalated into a violent fight. During this altercation, the suspect reportedly stabbed the victim in the chest with a knife, leading to his death. The fatal stabbing occurred after the argument spiraled out of control, marking the tragic end of Yohanna Musa's life over a seemingly small debt. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter, but the suspect’s confession has already been taken into account as part of the ongoing case.
ÂThis incident has sparked discussions about the consequences of unresolved disputes and the potential for violence when disagreements are not addressed peacefully. Authorities have urged residents to report any violent encounters to prevent such tragic events from occurring in the future.
