A student of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, identified as Rhoda, was kidnapped while on her way to Port Harcourt for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). She was released after the payment of a ₦2.5 million ransom.
Her release was confirmed on X, formerly known as Twitter, by a prominent social media influencer who had been actively raising awareness about the incident.
The influencer, who had initially alerted the public about Rhoda’s kidnapping, took the initiative to start a crowdfunding campaign to raise the ₦2.5 million demanded by the kidnappers in exchange for her release.
The fundraising efforts were successful, and within less than 24 hours, the influencer confirmed that Rhoda had been freed. In his post, he expressed gratitude and shared the good news: “Happy to announce that Rhoda has been released and is safe now. Thank you all for your donations. Only God can reward your labor of love 🙏🏾.”
He further added, “Full details will come later. Let her rest and enjoy reunion with family.” This update prompted an outpouring of reactions from the public, with many expressing their appreciation for the influencer’s efforts and offering heartfelt messages of support for Rhoda and her family.
