According to reports, the DSS has appointed Rasheed Lawal, a deputy director in the secret police, to step into the role of CSO for the president. Lawal’s deployment underscores a reshuffle within the presidential security unit, which is often expected when there is new leadership at the DSS.

A reliable source within the State House revealed that the request for Fasasi’s reassignment originated from Tosin Ajayi, the director-general (DG) of DSS. Ajayi reportedly sought the approval of President Tinubu to facilitate Fasasi’s temporary move, allowing for a fresh approach to security under the president’s office.

The same source indicated that the transition is linked to Fasasi’s upcoming professional training. Having been part of President Tinubu’s security team since his inauguration, Fasasi is now set to advance his career through a professional course that requires his absence.

“I have heard that the change was made because Fasasi is being sent on a professional course,” the source confirmed. “It appears to be a routine matter rather than anything tied to misconduct or controversy. Although, as in any organization, there may have been some minor issues, nothing of significance is linked to his reassignment.”

The source added that it is common practice for a new DG at the DSS to initiate reorganization. This process typically involves strategic changes, particularly in the security apparatus surrounding the president. “Whenever a new DG takes charge of the DSS, it’s usual to expect a reshuffle in critical positions, particularly those that concern the presidency,” the source explained. “The office of the CSO is naturally one of the most important areas where trusted personnel are preferred by the DG.”

At the time of this report, neither the presidency nor the DSS has released an official statement confirming the switch of personnel. Nevertheless, the transition within the president's security team seems to be in effect, marking another shift in Tinubu's administration.
