President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound appreciation for the Nigerian Armed Forces, describing them as the nation’s heroes while reiterating his administration’s steadfast commitment to ensuring their welfare and operational readiness.

During the commissioning ceremony of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks and additional Army facilities in Abuja on Thursday, Tinubu acknowledged the sacrifices of military personnel in safeguarding the country. “You are our heroes, and I deeply thank you for the tremendous sacrifices you have made for this nation,” the President said, emphasizing that their welfare would remain a top priority for his government.

The newly commissioned Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks stands as a testament to the government’s dedication to addressing the accommodation challenges faced by Army personnel. The state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance the living standards of officers and soldiers stationed in Abuja, providing modern and comfortable quarters tailored to their needs.

The construction of the barracks commenced on November 26, 2022, under the leadership of Major General Philip Eromosele, and was funded during the tenure of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja. The project was completed on January 9, 2025, under the supervision of Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede. The barracks comprise:

16 spacious Major General Quarters
34 comfortable Brigadier General Quarters
60 well-furnished Major-Colonel Flats
60 Lieutenant-Captain Flats
180 Senior NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) Flats
264 flats for Corporals and lower-ranking personnel
Worship centers, sports facilities, and a centralized powerhouse

In addition to the barracks, President Tinubu performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new Armed Forces Complex in Asokoro, Abuja. This initiative aims to bolster the operational efficiency and administrative capabilities of the military, further demonstrating the administration’s commitment to strengthening the country’s defense infrastructure.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials and dignitaries, including National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Defence Badaru Abubakar, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, service chiefs, and other top government and military officials. Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion and the unified efforts to support the armed forces.

The President’s remarks highlighted his administration’s resolve to prioritize the welfare of military personnel and ensure they are well-equipped to continue their invaluable service to the nation. “This barracks represents not just infrastructure but our unwavering commitment to our soldiers' well-being and our acknowledgment of their pivotal role in securing Nigeria’s future,” Tinubu concluded.
