He made this declaration during the 2024 South-West Assembly of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which was held in Victoria Island, Lagos, and organized by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who serves as the party’s zonal coordinator.

The event was attended by prominent APC leaders, including the former national chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, former Governor Olusegun Osoba, and the current governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti). All of them voiced their support for Tinubu and the party’s strategies for the 2027 elections.

In a keynote address delivered by the former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, Tinubu was praised as a “listening leader” who is deeply committed to Nigeria’s development and progress.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Tinubu called for patience among Nigerians, stressing that his administration is focused on making difficult decisions that will promote long-term national development, rather than making moves aimed at short-term electoral victories.

As the country’s political climate continues to evolve, Tinubu’s dedication to securing a brighter future for the next generation of Nigerians may redefine discussions around governance and national progress, highlighting a vision that extends beyond the immediate electoral cycle.

Gbajabiamila conveyed, “Mr. President has instructed me to inform you that he is not concerned with the next election but is instead focused on the next generation.”

“He has asked me to share his message with you, acknowledging that he is aware of the tough decisions he has made. He sees a light at the end of the tunnel, and there will come a time when we will all express gratitude for these decisions.”

“Mr. President asked me to let you know that his concern is not about the next election, but rather the well-being of the next generation. Every country produces a leader who is best suited for the challenges of that particular time, and this is the time for a courageous leader.”

He emphasized that Tinubu is wholly committed to the well-being of every Nigerian, especially the masses. He acknowledged that while the tough reforms present significant challenges, Tinubu is driven by a strong determination to guide Nigeria through this pivotal period of transformation.

Gbajabiamila highlighted that Tinubu feels the pain and struggles faced by the people, but he remains unwavering in his belief that these difficult decisions are necessary to lead the country through these testing times. He further noted that despite Tinubu’s position as President, his political foundation is firmly rooted in the Southwest, making the discussions at this assembly particularly meaningful.

“The challenges facing our country are vast and complex. However, those who are familiar with him know that Tinubu has always been a leader with a deep affection for the people. He is saddened by their struggles, but he is resolute in his vision for Nigeria’s future,” he added.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reiterated the importance of unity and cooperation within the Southwest region, stating that collective efforts from the region are crucial for harnessing its rich resources and propelling the country forward. He also emphasized that the gathering was an opportunity to rekindle hope and uphold the values of “omoluabi” for the advancement of both the region and the nation.

Sanwo-Olu urged all leaders and members to continue supporting Tinubu not only through the 2027 elections but to maintain their focus on the future.

Senate Majority Leader Bamidele Opeyemi highlighted the strategic significance of the South-West APC Caucus in the 10th Assembly, noting that 15 out of 18 Senators from the region are members of the APC, giving the caucus significant influence in national legislative affairs.

He pointed out the Caucus’s success in securing key leadership positions in both the Senate and the House of Representatives, enabling them to effectively advocate for the interests of the region.

Opeyemi also mentioned the passage of the South West Development Commission Bill, describing it as an important step toward achieving regional equity.

He credited the South-West Caucus with playing a stabilizing role in the Senate, particularly in its support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his deputy, Jubrin Barau, during recent controversies.

In his keynote address, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi called for the South-West Caucus model to be replicated at the state and local government levels, urging the APC to maintain a united front in order to achieve Tinubu’s “renewed hope agenda.” Fayemi expressed his confidence that the party would remain strong and dedicated to fulfilling its promises under Tinubu’s leadership.

“We cannot afford to rest on our laurels as a party. I am confident that the APC will remain strong and focused on completing the unfinished business of Mr. President’s renewed hope agenda,” he said.
