The body of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has arrived in Abuja ahead of his burial, which is scheduled for Friday. The remains of the late COAS were transported aboard the Nigerian Air Force plane, NAF 918, which landed at the presidential wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, after departing from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos around 11 a.m.
Upon arrival in Abuja, a solemn and respectful guard of honour was conducted to honor the late General. The body was escorted along a red carpet, with Nigeria's top military officials present, paying their respects to the service and dedication of Lieutenant General Lagbaja to the nation.
Lieutenant General Lagbaja served as the Chief of Army Staff for a period of one year and four months, having been appointed by President Bola Tinubu in June 2023. His funeral will take place at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja. President Tinubu announced his passing last week, after a period of illness in Lagos.
Born on February 28, 1968, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja’s career was marked by his unwavering commitment to national security and his invaluable contributions to the growth and fortification of the Nigerian Army. His death has deeply affected the military and the nation as a whole, with tributes flowing in from his colleagues, public officials, and citizens alike, acknowledging his dedication and service.
