Survivor says they pleaded with driver to wait but he didn't listen, leading to train/BRT crash

One of the survivors of the incident that involved a moving train and a Lagos State government staff bus on Thursday, March 9, has shared her account of what happened leading up to the collision. The survivor, who goes by the name Titilayo, disclosed that she and other passengers on the bus pleaded with the driver to wait for the train to pass, but unfortunately, he refused to listen, leading to the crash.

Titilayo, who is a middle-aged female staff member of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Ikeja, sustained injuries on her lower limbs and was among the victims of the accident who were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

According to Titilayo, the incident happened at around 7:15 am when they got to the intersection at PWD in Ikeja. The driver of the bus continued driving despite the presence of the approaching train, and passengers inside the bus, including herself, begged him to wait for the train to pass before attempting to cross the rail tracks. However, the driver didn't listen to their pleas, and as they were midway through crossing the rail tracks, the collision occurred, resulting in the loss of six lives and leaving several others injured.

Speaking to journalists, Titilayo said, "Midway, just before he could finish crossing the rail tracks, the accident happened. Many of us were rushed here, while five others were taken to Gbagada General Hospital."

The unfortunate crash occurred at the PWD bus stop in the Ikeja area of the state on Thursday morning, causing the loss of several lives and injuries to many others. The victims were immediately rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja for medical attention.
