Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has voiced his concerns about the lack of patriotism among many Nigerians, attributing it to various challenges facing the country. In a video that has been circulating online since Thursday, Igboho, who was seen at an airport in the United Kingdom, explained that the country’s issues, such as corruption, insecurity, and a struggling economy, have left many citizens disillusioned and unable to identify with the country. He suggested that the solution to these persistent problems might lie in the dissolution of Nigeria as a united entity, proposing that different ethnic groups should be allowed to go their separate ways if the country cannot function as one. Igboho, a staunch advocate for the Yoruba Nation, pointed out that many Yoruba youths who have traveled abroad are returning with new perspectives, knowledge, and experiences that could potentially transform the Yoruba land into a modern, prosperous nation akin to those in Europe.
During the video, Igboho made a candid remark about the deplorable state of Nigerian airports. He noted that even while at the airport, there was a lack of security, stating that people’s belongings can easily be stolen from their bags without any consequences. This, he argued, is one of the many reasons that discourage Nigerians from feeling pride in their country. “Such experiences make us hesitant to identify as Nigerians,” he said, adding, “That’s why we advocate for separation. If Nigeria isn’t working, it’s better we go our separate ways.”
Igboho further stressed that the Yoruba youths, who have gained valuable insights and experience from their travels around the world, are eager to return to their roots and use their acquired knowledge to contribute to the development of Yoruba land. He expressed optimism that with these young minds, the Yoruba Nation could be built into a country that reflects the advancement and prosperity seen in European nations. “When they return to Yoruba land, they will use it to build and transform the nation into one that mirrors Europe,” Igboho concluded.
