Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is set to face a disciplinary panel following a unanimous decision by the Senate to have her appear before the committee for review.
According to reports, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for a disciplinary review regarding her recent altercation with the Senate leadership.
A video that surfaced online a few days ago captured the moment Senate President Godswill Akpabio ordered her removal from the Senate chamber. The clip sparked widespread discussions about the incident and its implications for the legislative body.
The disciplinary panel, chaired by Senator Neda Imaseun, has been given a two-week deadline to conduct its investigation and report its findings to the Senate.
The debate over the altercation intensified during a recent Senate session, with Senator Yemi Adaramodu calling for disciplinary action. He emphasized the need for maintaining order within the legislative chamber, stating, “Where there is sin, there must be a penalty.”
Echoing Adaramodu’s sentiments, Senate Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele also addressed the matter, stressing the importance of upholding Senate rules and decorum. He reaffirmed the legislative body’s commitment to discipline and integrity, warning against any attempts to undermine the Senate’s authority.
‘’There is no one who does not have an opinion on this issue, but we are unified by our rules. Under our watch, we will not allow this institution to be discredited beyond what we inherited. Integrity is non-negotiable,” he stated firmly.
As the Senate awaits the committee’s report, political observers and Nigerians continue to react to the unfolding events, with many debating the implications of the disciplinary action on the legislative process.
