The abduction sent shockwaves through the community, but thanks to a swift response by the Nigerian Army, alongside other security agencies, a well-coordinated search operation was launched. The operation, which lasted for two nights, led to a dramatic confrontation with the kidnappers in a forest. Following an intense two-hour gun battle, the assailants, who had been injured during the skirmish, fled the scene, abandoning the kidnapped victims, who were promptly rescued.
Kogi State Deputy Governor, Joel Salifu, commended the courage and professionalism displayed by the security operatives during the operation. In a statement released by his Press Secretary, Emmanuel Unubi, Salifu expressed his relief that all 16 victims were safely rescued. He also emphasized the state government’s dedication to making Kogi hostile to criminal elements and ensuring that the safety of residents remains a top priority.
The deputy governor further affirmed that under the leadership of Governor Ahmed Ododo, Kogi State would continue to take proactive measures to ensure the security of lives and properties across the state. He reassured residents that the government would not relent in its efforts to combat crime and maintain peace within the state.
The three pastors, who had been invited to minister at the crusade, were abducted while heading to their guest house after the second day of the three-day event. Their safe return has been met with relief, and the event’s organizers have praised the security operatives for their effective and timely intervention in resolving the matter.
