Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his commitment to deepening collaboration with France in key sectors such as agriculture, public transportation, and infrastructure development.
The Governor made this declaration on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Marc Fonbaustier, at the Lagos House in Marina. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral ties between Lagos and France, with discussions centered on investment opportunities and potential areas of cooperation.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted the strong diplomatic and economic relations between Lagos and France, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration.
“Over the years, we have built a solid partnership with the French Government, the French Embassy, and the Consul-General. Throughout my nearly six years in office, we have received extensive support, and each successive French Ambassador and Consul-General has played a crucial role in fostering this productive relationship,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The Governor further stressed the strategic importance of Lagos to France, citing ongoing partnerships in agriculture and transportation, including initiatives in both public transit and waterway transportation systems.
“Lagos, as a subnational government, remains committed to fostering robust and mutually beneficial partnerships with France. We will continue to explore new ways to deepen our relationship, ensuring sustainable growth and development in critical sectors that benefit our citizens,” he added.
Ambassador Marc Fonbaustier lauded Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, describing him as “a visionary and transformative leader.”
In response, the French Ambassador reaffirmed France’s commitment to advancing its relationship with Lagos State, pledging to spearhead new initiatives and ambitious projects that will drive economic and infrastructural development in the region.
He emphasized France’s interest in further investments in Lagos, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, urban mobility, and capacity-building programs that would create more economic opportunities for the people of Lagos.
The meeting underscored both parties' dedication to strengthening diplomatic relations and fostering economic growth through strategic partnerships and developmental initiatives.
