A prophetess, identified as Mrs Folashade Adekola, has been arrested by operatives of the Ondo State Police Command in connection with the death of a mother, Jumoke Adesuwa, and her newborn baby. The tragic incident has sparked outrage in the community, with investigations underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The arrest was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, on Tuesday. She stated that Jumoke Adesuwa tragically bled to death from complications following childbirth, which occurred inside the suspect’s church, located in the Oke-Aro area of Akure, the state capital. The newborn baby also died immediately after birth. The situation surrounding the deaths has raised serious questions about the care and conditions at the church where the delivery took place.
According to the PPRO, the prophetess was arrested after the brother of the deceased reported the matter to the police. The police swiftly responded to the complaint, leading to the arrest of Mrs Adekola. The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation. The police are now piecing together the details of what led to the tragic deaths, with a focus on the role of the prophetess and the church's practices in the incident.
A source within the family, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, shared a disturbing account of the events that unfolded after the tragic deaths. According to the source, someone from the church called the deceased’s husband to inform him that his wife had successfully delivered a baby. Upon hearing this, the husband immediately called a family member, and the two rushed to the church to be with her. Upon arrival, they were told that the baby had died after birth, but that the mother was still alive. However, when they reached the church, they were shocked to find the deceased in a pool of blood, bleeding profusely.
The source continued to explain that the woman was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but due to the severity of her condition, she was rejected at three different hospitals. Finally, she was admitted to the last hospital, where doctors attempted to revive her, but sadly, she died during the process. The family was left devastated by the series of events, but their shock only deepened when they returned to the church to collect the baby’s remains. They discovered the baby’s lifeless body in a room within the church, and the condition of the room was deeply troubling. The room did not resemble a proper delivery room, further raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding the births of both mother and child.
The family has expressed their outrage and grief over the entire incident, with many questioning the role of the prophetess in the deaths and whether proper medical care was provided during the delivery. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities have vowed to uncover the truth behind this tragic event, ensuring that justice is served for the lives lost. The case has sparked wider conversations about the practices of unregulated religious organizations and their role in matters of health and safety, particularly in sensitive situations such as childbirth.
