The Ogun State Police Command has successfully rescued the wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, following a daring kidnapping incident that occurred last week in the Arepo area of Ogun State. This development has brought a sense of relief to the family and raised concerns about the growing security challenges in the region.
According to reports, the kidnapping took place on Thursday evening, when Mrs. Odumosu was ambushed by a group of masked kidnappers as she was driving her Lexus Jeep near her residence in Arepo. The assailants, who were armed and highly coordinated, intercepted her vehicle and forcibly dragged her out. Despite her efforts to resist, she was taken away by the kidnappers to an undisclosed location, leaving her family and the community in shock and fear.
The Ogun State Police quickly mobilized a team of officers to take immediate action. Omolola Odutola, the state police spokesperson, confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a team of officers to begin an intensive search operation in the swampy bush areas around the scene of the abduction. Local security forces, including influential community leaders like the Baale of Warewa and Maaba, were enlisted to assist in the operation, increasing the scope and reach of the search. The combined efforts of the police and local authorities were essential in tracking down the kidnappers and rescuing Mrs. Odumosu safely after several days of intense efforts.
On Thursday, exactly one week after the kidnapping, the Force Headquarters Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, shared the news of her safe rescue. The statement, posted on his X account, confirmed that the police had not only freed Mrs. Odumosu but also neutralized the kidnappers and recovered the ransom that had been demanded. The police operation was a resounding success, and this outcome has been hailed as a major achievement by both law enforcement and the community.
In his brief statement, Adejobi praised the efforts of the police operatives involved in the operation.
