The Police Command in Plateau State has addressed and dismissed circulating rumors of a bomb explosion along Murtala Way, close to the Jos Terminus in Jos North Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command, Mr. Alfred Alabo, issued an official statement on Tuesday in Jos, clarifying the details surrounding the situation.

According to Alabo, the police command received a report early on Tuesday morning about an alleged Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that was reportedly planted in the vicinity of Murtala Way.

“At exactly 8:20 a.m., we received a report of a shallow dug hole that residents suspected might contain an IED near the old site of the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) on Murtala Way,” he explained.

“This rumor caused considerable panic among the residents of the state, leading to widespread concern about the potential for an explosion,” he added.

Upon receiving the report, Plateau State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emmanuel Adesina, swiftly mobilized the Anti-Bomb Squad to assess the scene, investigate the claims, and ensure public safety.

“On reaching the scene, our officers immediately cordoned off the area to prevent unauthorized access. After a thorough examination, they confirmed that the hole was safe and free from any explosives,” Alabo reported.

The police spokesperson noted that Commissioner Adesina himself visited the location to provide reassurance, thanking Plateau residents for their cooperation, peaceful conduct, and vigilance throughout the incident.

He urged the residents to resume their daily activities without fear, reassuring them that the area was safe and that there was no threat to public security.
