The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 40-year-old man identified as Elisha Daniel for allegedly raping a three-year-old girl. This heinous crime has sparked outrage across the state, prompting swift action by law enforcement and government authorities.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, disclosed the development during a press briefing on Thursday. He condemned the incident in strong terms, describing it as a barbaric act that reflects the worst of human behavior. He assured the public that the government is committed to ensuring justice is served promptly and effectively.
Fanwo further emphasized the resolve of the Kogi State Government to bring the suspect to book, reiterating that such crimes have no place in a civilized society. He called for the full force of the law to be applied to send a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.
In response to the incident, Governor Usman Ododo has issued directives for state officials to collaborate closely with the Nigerian Police Force to expedite the prosecution of the suspect. The governor expressed his commitment to ensuring that justice is served without delay and that the rights and safety of vulnerable members of society are protected.
“The Chief Servant of the State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has given a marching order to the Secretary to the State Government and other relevant officials to work hand in hand with the Nigerian Police Force to ensure that the accused is prosecuted promptly and effectively,” Fanwo stated.
He also stressed the importance of adopting a zero-tolerance stance toward such heinous crimes. “Our society must have zero tolerance for such heinous acts. The law must not only bark but bite hard to send a clear message that such behavior will not be condoned,” Fanwo said.
The government has urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any acts of violence or abuse, especially against children, to law enforcement agencies. This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the need for collective action to protect the most vulnerable members of society.
