President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State on Thursday as part of his first official visit to the region in 2025.
The President, aboard a Nigeria Air Force Airbus A330, touched down at approximately 1:22 p.m., marking a significant moment for the state. He was accorded a warm and ceremonial welcome by an array of dignitaries, including the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, his counterparts from Imo and Abia States, Hope Uzodimma and Alex Otti, respectively, and the Deputy Governor of Anambra State. Also present were notable figures such as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, former Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim, Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, and renowned businessman, Arthur Eze, among others.
A statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, outlined the President’s agenda for the visit, highlighting the commissioning of several transformative projects spearheaded by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration. These projects reflect a commitment to driving development and improving the lives of Enugu residents.
The landmark projects slated for commissioning include:
The Enugu International Conference Centre, a state-of-the-art multi-auditorium facility designed for hosting large-scale events and conferences.Thirty fully completed and equipped Smart Green Schools, part of an ambitious initiative to develop 260 schools across the state’s wards.
Sixty Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres, constructed and equipped as part of a broader effort to provide healthcare facilities in all 260 wards statewide.
Ninety newly completed urban roads within Enugu City, aimed at improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.
A modern Command and Control Centre equipped with cutting-edge AI technology, complemented by 150 patrol vehicles with AI-powered surveillance systems to bolster security in the state.
Additionally, the President will commission numerous rural road projects, emphasizing his administration’s focus on fostering inclusive development that bridges urban and rural divides.
This visit represents a significant collaboration between the federal and state governments, underscoring a shared commitment to improving infrastructure, enhancing security, and providing better opportunities for Nigerians. The projects to be inaugurated symbolize the transformative vision of the Enugu State Government, which continues to prioritize the well-being of its citizens under Governor Mbah’s leadership.
