The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has postponed the 2023 national census, which was scheduled for May 3-7, indefinitely. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has expressed his support for the federal government's decision, emphasizing the need for proper planning and diligence to ensure the sanctity of the results, efficacy of the data gathered, and their utility in driving national development goals, improving living standards, and addressing the growing national housing deficit. In a statement posted on Twitter, he also expressed his hope that when the census is eventually conducted, it will serve as a confidence-building measure and not be fraught with controversy.
