Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and a well-known advocate for justice and fairness, has committed to meeting the bail conditions set for human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi. Farotimi is facing legal proceedings in a defamation case involving the prominent legal icon Afe Babalola.
The bail conditions were outlined by an Ekiti Magistrate Court and include a N30 million bond, two sureties (one of whom must own a property), the surrender of his passport, and a restriction from granting media interviews. These stringent terms reflect the seriousness of the case and the legal framework governing such matters.
This commitment by Obi was disclosed by Tanko Yunusa, a former spokesperson for Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, in a detailed statement shared on Friday via his X (formerly Twitter) account. Yunusa emphasized that Peter Obi, as a leader of the Obidient Movement, has consistently demonstrated his respect for due process and legal integrity. As someone who respects the rule of law, due process, and order, he has offered to fulfill Dele Farotimi’s bail conditions.”
Furthermore, Yunusa conveyed Obi’s heartfelt gratitude to the judiciary, legal stakeholders, and everyone involved in the matter. He remarked, “His Excellency extends his heartfelt gratitude to everyone concerned and remains committed to resolving this matter in a way that aligns with our legal system and promotes fairness.
