A statement released by the Imo PDP Publicity Secretary, Lancelot Obiak, revealed that the expulsion was executed by the PDP executive in Ideato Local Government Area (LGA), with the official expulsion letter dated December 5, 2024. The letter was signed by the LGA Chairman, ThankGod Okeke, and the Secretary, Onyebuchi Umeh.

The statement further clarified that Ugochinyere’s expulsion followed a report by the party’s disciplinary committee, dated November 27, 2024, which investigated a range of misconduct charges against him based on the party’s internal rules outlined in Section 57 (1-4) of the PDP constitution (2017, as amended). According to the statement, Ugochinyere had been suspended from his Umuopia/Umukegwu ward on October 14, 2024, after failing to attend a disciplinary meeting on October 5, 2024. He had also ignored subsequent invitations and reminders to attend the meeting, further compounding the allegations against him.

The expulsion letter from the LGA read: “Upon receipt of the report, the LGA Executive Committee of Ideato North convened on December 5, 2024, and unanimously adopted the report of the disciplinary committee.” It then went on to confirm that Ugochinyere was officially expelled from the PDP, stating, “Hon. Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu is hereby expelled from the party (PDP) with immediate effect, and he ceases to be a member of the Peoples Democratic Party in Umuopia/Umukegwu ward of Ideato North LGA.”

The expulsion was also due to a range of additional violations outlined in the PDP’s constitution, such as Ugochinyere’s deliberate failure to attend meetings and participate in party activities, which breaches Section 58 (1)e) of the PDP constitution (2017, as amended). Moreover, he was found guilty of unauthorized publicity of disputes within the party, which goes against Section 58(1)i of the constitution. Ugochinyere was also accused of forming parallel party structures, both within his local ward and at the LGA and National levels, which is a clear violation of the party’s internal rules. Lastly, he was criticized for making derogatory and provocative public statements about the party and its national leaders, actions that brought the party into public ridicule and controversy.
