A Nigerian couple has shared a shocking account of how they were allegedly arrested, assaulted, and extorted by police officers in Owerri while taking their baby to school. According to the wife, who narrated their ordeal in a lengthy video on TikTok, the officers not only harassed them but also seized their car key and demanded a hefty sum of ₦500,000 for bail.

The woman explained that their child was supposed to be picked up by the school bus that morning. However, due to a mechanical fault, she and her husband decided to personally drive their baby to school.

On their way, she began feeling hungry and asked her husband to stop at a food vendor so she could buy something to eat. While they were parked by the roadside, a vehicle suddenly pulled up beside them, and a group of men who identified themselves as police officers stepped out aggressively.

Without providing any reason for their actions, the officers immediately started attacking her husband, forcefully ordering him to enter their vehicle. Alarmed by the situation, she repeatedly questioned them about why he was being detained, but they refused to offer any explanation and insisted that she should follow them to the police station.

Barely a minute later, the officers returned and took her into custody as well. As they were being transported, she said she was subjected to physical assault for daring to question their actions, while her husband, who was in handcuffs, watched helplessly. She claimed that they both endured more than 20 slaps each, along with verbal abuse and intimidation.

At the station, the police officers demanded a whopping ₦500,000 for their release. When her husband told them that he did not have that amount, they continued slapping and harassing him in an attempt to force compliance.

After intense pressure and coercion, he finally agreed to pay ₦150,000. Once the money was handed over, the officers released them but, shockingly, refused to return their car key.

Determined to retrieve their car key, the couple quickly boarded a motorcycle and followed the officers to their next location. Upon realizing they were being pursued, one of the officers stepped out and attempted to chase the wife, but she managed to escape by taking shelter in a nearby car wash. Meanwhile, her husband had gone ahead to gather bystanders to intervene and help recover their car key.

Expressing her frustration and anger over the situation, she condemned the police officers in strong words, saying: “Police officers are thieves. If any of them passes away, they should be thrown into a dustbin. They are evil and very wicked.”

As her video gained traction on social media, netizens flooded the comment section to express their thoughts, anger, and advice regarding the distressing incident.
