The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ondo State, Mrs. Susan Gbemisola Alabi, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant shift in the political landscape ahead of the upcoming elections.
Alabi explained that her decision to join the APC stemmed from “irreconcilable differences” with the SDP’s governorship candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, highlighting a growing divide within the party. She elaborated on the challenges and disagreements that had emerged during her time with the SDP, which ultimately led her to conclude that her political aspirations and values aligned more closely with those of the APC. This move underscores her commitment to pursuing a political path that resonates with her beliefs and objectives.

Upon her arrival at the APC, Alabi was warmly received by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, who is also the APC’s candidate for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 16. Governor Aiyedatiwa welcomed her into the fold during a campaign tour in the Akoko North West Local Government Area, where he emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among party members as they head into the election season.
During his remarks, Aiyedatiwa assured the community that the 2025 budget would be structured to benefit all areas of Ondo State. “The 2025 budget will be well-structured to guarantee that every area of Ondo State benefits from development initiatives,” he stated, noting planned improvements in infrastructure and services, especially in Akoko North West, an area he indicated would receive particular attention under his administration. This commitment aims to address the developmental needs of the region and enhance the overall quality of life for its residents.
The governor expressed his appreciation for the support he has received from local leaders, which he described as crucial to the APC's campaign efforts. Representing 27 traditional rulers in the area, Oba Olasehinde Ojo Adetona, the Owa of Ogbagi, promised full backing and a strong voter turnout for the APC in the upcoming election. This endorsement from local traditional leaders is expected to bolster the party’s standing within the community and encourage voter mobilization.
At the event held in Oke Irun, Governor Aiyedatiwa encouraged APC supporters to stay united and work together to secure the party’s victory in the elections. He shared that his campaign route, which included many key areas within the local government, allowed him to connect directly with community members and understand their needs. This approach, he noted, would help tailor his administration's efforts to better serve the populace if elected into office.
The campaign’s positive momentum continued in Oke Agbe, the headquarters of the local government, where Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s focus on areas like security, infrastructure, and agriculture. He assured residents that these priorities would guide the government’s plans for future development, reflecting a commitment to addressing the critical issues faced by the community and ensuring a brighter future for Ondo State.
