Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has openly criticized the judge presiding over his trial, Justice Binta Nyako, accusing her of being corrupt.
During a court session, Kanu was seen in a video shared by "The Cable" confronting Justice Binta Nyako and alleging that she had been influenced by external pressures. He claimed that her judgment was compromised due to corruption charges reportedly linked to her family members.
He specifically stated, “Justice Binta Nyako’s son and husband are facing corruption charges, and she’s been told that if she convicts me, they will be let off. Poor knowledge of the law is killing Nigeria.”
Justice Binta Nyako, who serves as a judge at the Federal High Court in Abuja, has now decided to indefinitely adjourn the trial of Nnamdi Kanu.
This decision was made following Kanu’s insistence that Justice Nyako cannot preside over his case due to her alleged bias and the fact that she had previously recused herself from handling it.
Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and brought back to Nigeria in June 2021. Since then, he has remained in detention, facing trial on charges related to alleged terrorism and other offenses brought against him by the Nigerian government.
The indefinite adjournment of his trial has sparked various reactions among his supporters and the general public, with some viewing it as a delay tactic while others believe it is a necessary step to ensure fairness in the legal proceedings.
