During his speech, Gaidam expressed concern regarding the lack of adequate information exchange between these agencies. He explained that, since taking office in May 2023, he has observed that security agencies in Nigeria operate mostly in isolation without collaborating on intelligence sharing, which he believes hampers the ability to respond swiftly and efficiently to security threats.

The minister addressed this issue at a workshop specifically organized to foster inter-agency collaboration, which brought together representatives from various law enforcement bodies to discuss how to strengthen coordination. He stressed that improving communication and cooperation among these agencies would significantly bolster the country’s capacity to address rising security concerns and reduce criminal activities.

Gaidam shared his observations since assuming office, stating, “Upon my assumption of office in August 2023, I identified a significant lack of inter-agency collaboration, as law enforcement agencies largely operate independently in terms of information sharing.”

He continued by stressing the urgent need for law enforcement bodies to work together, noting that an integrated approach to Nigeria's security framework, backed by the necessary political will, is essential to overcoming current and future challenges. “There is an urgent need for all law enforcement agencies to synergize on the future of our security architecture with all the required speed and political will,” Gaidam said.

The minister added that given the ongoing security threats and the complex challenges facing Nigeria, there has never been a more crucial time to establish effective inter-agency collaboration. He stressed that sharing vital intelligence and classified information is essential to mitigate the security issues affecting the nation.

Gaidam recommended the implementation of a system similar to the West African Police Information System (WAPIS), a technological platform that facilitates intelligence sharing among law enforcement agencies across West Africa. He explained that such a system could enable Nigerian agencies to collaborate seamlessly and respond more effectively to security challenges.

He said, “I strongly believe that if a similar system like WAPIS is deployed among the law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, it will go a long way in curbing internal security challenges.”

Also speaking at the event, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, represented by Deputy Inspector General Dasuki Galadanchi, emphasized the critical role of information sharing in achieving the collective goal of reducing crime and enhancing public safety.

Egbetokun elaborated on the benefits of effective information sharing among security agencies, noting, “The importance of information sharing among security agencies cannot be overemphasized as it is a very crucial aspect of our collective efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety.”

He added, “Effective information sharing is the lifeblood of our efforts to prevent, investigate, and prosecute crimes. It enables us to identify patterns and anticipate potential threats, making it a vital component of our national security strategy.”
