In a statement shared on December 8, 2024, NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada praised Balogun for her determination and unwavering commitment to the Service throughout her career. He highlighted her journey as a testament to the NCS's efforts to nurture talent and encourage groundbreaking achievements within the organization.

Balogun’s journey with the Nigeria Customs Service began in 2002, where she worked her way up through a series of qualifications, demonstrating her commitment to advancing her professional skills. She earned an Advanced Diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services, a Master’s in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, and eventually achieved her Pilot Certification from the renowned Flying Academy in Miami, Florida, all with the invaluable support of the NCS. These qualifications contributed to her becoming a Deputy Superintendent of Customs, cementing her role as a trailblazer in the NCS Airwing.

As the first female pilot in the NCS Airwing, Balogun’s success has made her a role model for many, particularly women in the Service who aspire to break barriers and pursue their dreams. Balogun reflected on the obstacles she overcame throughout her journey, particularly the decision to remain in public service despite the temptation to pursue more financially lucrative airline jobs. Her dedication to public service, she believes, has been a key motivator in her decision to stay the course in the NCS.

“Staying in the Service was tough, but I was determined to contribute to public service and fulfill my dream of becoming a pilot,” Balogun remarked, reflecting on the challenges that made her achievement all the more meaningful.

She also expressed hope that her story would inspire young Nigerians, especially women, to remain steadfast in the pursuit of their dreams, emphasizing that obstacles can be overcome with perseverance and determination. “I hope my journey will motivate young Nigerians, especially women, to chase their dreams and overcome barriers,” she added.

The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, also commended Balogun’s groundbreaking achievement, emphasizing the role of the Nigeria Customs Service in fostering an environment that supports the development of talent, both in gender representation and professional excellence. “Her story exemplifies what is possible with determination and institutional support,” he said in recognition of her accomplishments.

Balogun’s historic feat is being celebrated as a major milestone in the NCS’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusivity, gender representation, and innovation within its ranks. Her success serves as a powerful reminder that with hard work and dedication, one can achieve great things, regardless of gender or societal expectations.
