The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully intercepted an attempt to smuggle illegal drugs into the United Kingdom. The drugs were cleverly concealed inside parcels of tiger nuts and bags of groundnuts. This operation prevented what could have been a major drug trafficking attempt between Nigeria and the UK.
Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA, shared the information in videos posted on X.com on Sunday, providing an inside look into the moment of discovery. The video footage showed the NDLEA officers carefully uncovering the illicit substances hidden within the packages, which were bound for the UK. Babafemi took this opportunity to issue a stern warning to the public about accepting packages without ensuring they are thoroughly checked for illegal items.
In his post, Babafemi wrote, “Once again, never accept any package on your journey, no matter how genuine it looks, without a thorough search. These videos showing the moment NDLEA officers uncovered illicit drugs in parcels of tiger nuts bound for the UK, and in bags of groundnuts in a bus, reinforce this warning.” He urged everyone to be extra vigilant when handling packages, particularly when traveling internationally.
