Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully intercepted a significant consignment of illegal drugs cleverly hidden inside a specially modified compartment of a passenger bus during a routine search operation.
According to reports, the bus was traveling along a major highway when officers, acting on intelligence, flagged it down for a thorough inspection. Upon further investigation, they discovered a hidden storage area within the vehicle, meticulously designed to smuggle illicit substances while avoiding detection by security personnel.
The agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, disclosed details of the operation on X (formerly Twitter), revealing how the traffickers employed sophisticated concealment tactics to transport the illegal substances across state and international borders.
Sharing video footage of the bust, Babafemi emphasized the expertise of the NDLEA officers in uncovering the smuggling attempt, stating: “Without the intelligence and professionalism of #ndlea_nigeria officers, who would have imagined that removing a vehicle’s bumper would reveal a specially constructed compartment within the bus, solely designed for drug trafficking across borders? Another cartel has been taken down!”
Authorities have since launched further investigations to apprehend the masterminds behind the operation, as the agency continues to intensify efforts in the war against drug trafficking and abuse in the country.
