The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mariya Mahmoud, has appealed to residents of Abuja to remain calm and not succumb to fear following the recent bomb explosions that took place in the city. She urged the public to stay composed and continue with their normal activities, emphasizing that the government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the capital city.
According to reports, a bomb blast occurred on Monday at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Abuja, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals and leaving two others injured. This tragic event has raised concern among residents, particularly regarding the safety of educational institutions and public spaces. The bomb explosion has caused a sense of fear and anxiety, prompting the Minister to visit the site and address these concerns.
On Wednesday, Mrs. Mahmoud visited the explosion site in the Kuchikuyi community, Bwari Area Council, where she took the opportunity to reassure residents about the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure their safety. In her statement, she conveyed heartfelt sympathy to the families affected by the blast, offering support during this difficult time. She stressed the government’s dedication to safeguarding the lives of every resident in the FCT and promised that authorities were working tirelessly to address the situation.
“Our sympathy goes to those affected, and we urge you to remain calm and go about your normal businesses,” Mrs. Mahmoud stated. She further acknowledged the fear and concern the bombings might have caused among residents, but reassured them that the authorities were fully committed to the safety of the people. She emphasized that investigations were underway and additional security measures were being implemented to prevent any further incidents. Mrs. Mahmoud also encouraged residents to stay vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies, reinforcing the importance of community cooperation in these trying times.
“Investigations are underway, and heightened security measures have been put in place to prevent any further incidents,” she added. “During this time, let us remain vigilant but not give in to fear. Stay informed through verified sources, cooperate with security agencies, and support one another as a community.”
Accompanying the Minister on her visit to the scene were several key security officials, including the FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu; the Commander of the Guards Brigade, Brig. Gen. A.O. Onasanya; and the FCT Sector Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olusola Odumosu. Together, they assessed the situation and reviewed ongoing security measures in the area to ensure the protection of residents.
