The Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has recently addressed the ongoing rumors surrounding a supposed rift between Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa. These rumors had been circulating, sparking concerns about internal conflicts within the APC as the party begins preparations for the 2027 governorship election.
This statement from the party leadership comes at a crucial time, with the 2027 election approaching. Unity and collaboration within the party are seen as vital in ensuring success during the upcoming electoral campaigns. In response to the speculation, the Lagos APC leadership has firmly dismissed the reports, stating that there is no existing conflict between Seyi Tinubu and Mudashiru Obasa. Furthermore, they emphasized that there is no division among any other potential aspirants within the party as they work together towards the common goal of strengthening the APC’s position in Lagos.
The APC leadership reiterated that maintaining unity and collaboration among its members is of paramount importance as the party continues its preparations for the 2027 election cycle. They underscored that internal peace and alignment are essential for the party's success and that the rumors were being blown out of proportion by opposition forces seeking to create unnecessary discord within the ranks of the APC.
Seye Oladejo, the APC’s Publicity Secretary in Lagos, spoke to Daily Trust about the rumors, attributing the spread of these false claims to opposition groups that aim to stir up conflict for their own political advantage. He made it clear that the APC has not made any official statements or announcements regarding the 2027 governorship race, as the party is currently focused on good governance and its upcoming 2025 local government elections.
“The party has not spoken about the 2027 election. This is the time for impactful governance, not needless politicking to heat the polity,” Oladejo stated. He further reiterated that there was no rift between Seyi Tinubu and Speaker Obasa, and he accused the opposition of attempting to manipulate the situation for their own benefit.
In a related development, the Lagos State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), led by Chairman Philip Aivoji, has also weighed in on the matter. Aivoji denied any involvement in the spread of the rumors, distancing his party from the speculations entirely. He made it clear that anyone pushing such allegations was acting independently and that the PDP was not responsible for fueling the controversy. “Anyone behind such allegations is on their own,” Aivoji said, effectively closing any speculation about his party's role in the matter.
