Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to introduce a 50 percent reduction in the new tax policy for workers in Kwara State, as a means of alleviating the financial strain caused by current economic challenges.
The NLC also urged the governor to extend the recently implemented tax holiday for public service employees by an additional three months, citing the difficult economic realities that citizens are currently facing.
This appeal comes on the heels of a previous tax relief granted to workers nearly three months ago, which the union described as a welcome but short-term measure.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Ilorin, NLC Chairman Muritala Olayinka expressed appreciation for Governor AbdulRazaq's dedication to the welfare of workers, evidenced by his administration's commitment to the prompt and regular payment of salaries and allowances. Olayinka commended this approach as a marked improvement over the practices of past administrations.
Olayinka went on to highlight Governor AbdulRazaq's exemplary leadership through the initiation and execution of key infrastructural projects that have significantly improved the quality of life for Kwara State residents. These projects, according to the NLC chairman, are a testament to the governor's commitment to fostering development and addressing the needs of the populace.

“Your Excellency’s dedication to workers’ welfare has not gone unnoticed. From the prompt payment of salaries and pensions to the execution of critical infrastructural projects that enhance the quality of life for all Kwarans, your administration has demonstrated an exemplary understanding of the challenges faced by the workforce and the general populace.”
Olayinka further emphasized the positive impact of the governor’s governance on healthcare, education, and social amenities, describing these improvements as pivotal to ensuring the productivity and well-being of Kwara State residents. He added that the governor’s inclusive leadership style and accessibility set a benchmark worth emulating by others.
