The Kwara State Government has officially announced the banning of the donation of branded educational materials to public schools in the state. This move aims to curb the practice of attaching political messages or endorsements to donations made to public schools.
The state government made this announcement in a statement issued on Wednesday, outlining their concerns regarding the growing trend of donors using school materials as a platform for political expression. The statement highlighted the practice of branding materials with the donor’s picture, often accompanied by subtle or overt political messages, which the government believes could lead to indoctrination of young children.
According to the governor, the state administration is dissatisfied with the culture of using school donations as political tools, emphasizing that it undermines the educational environment. The governor also made it clear that any educational materials donated by the government since 2019 have adhered to this policy of avoiding political branding. He noted that the materials provided by the government have never featured his own image or any political messages, as such actions are not conducive to the healthy development of young minds.
The governor’s statement reads: “While we welcome and appreciate every form of support for public schools, it is our standing policy that no such donations should include political branding in any form. Public officials and private individuals alike are urged to take note of this policy. We sincerely appreciate all those who support the advancement of public education in the state.”
