The recently ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has reportedly arrived at the Assembly Complex under heavy security escort, raising concerns over the ongoing leadership tussle within the state legislature.
According to eyewitness reports, Obasa was accompanied by no fewer than 11 police officers upon his arrival at the premises. He proceeded directly to the Speaker’s Office without making any public statements, signaling his intent to reclaim authority over the legislative chamber.
This development comes amid reports that the security details assigned to Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the newly appointed Speaker, have been withdrawn. It is also alleged that Obasa’s security personnel, which had previously been stripped, have now been fully restored, further fueling speculation about a shift in political power.
More details on the unfolding situation are expected to emerge soon as the leadership crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly intensifies.
Meanwhile, in an earlier report by Gistreel, sources revealed that following high-level political negotiations, Obasa’s security details were reinstated, while those previously assigned to Speaker Meranda have been removed.
Despite the recent turn of events, Meranda—who made history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly—has not officially resigned from her position. However, indications suggest that her tenure may be coming to an end due to the intervention of influential figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Prominent party leaders, including former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, former Osun State Governor Chief Olusegun Osoba, former Lagos Commissioner for Justice Dr. Muiz Banire, and key members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), have reportedly been instrumental in mediating the leadership dispute. Additionally, several lawmakers have been actively involved in the negotiations aimed at restoring stability to the legislative house.
