Former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to stay united and remain focused on reclaiming power in 2027, despite the recent wave of defections affecting the party. He expressed strong confidence in the future of the PDP and its ability to bounce back after facing setbacks in the previous elections.
Reaffirming his unwavering loyalty to the PDP, Ikpeazu vowed not to leave the party despite recent defections by some members, making it clear that he remains committed to the cause and the party’s mission. He stressed the importance of perseverance and determination, urging party members to keep working hard and supporting the PDP as it navigates through its current challenges. He specifically pointed out that the road to restoring the party’s prominence would not be easy but was achievable through unity and dedication.
Speaking to PDP supporters from Abia South at his Umuobiakwa country home, Ikpeazu emphasized the need for collective effort and resilience, stating that the PDP’s historical role in shaping the political landscape of the country should not be taken for granted. He urged members to remain steadfast and not allow discouragement to steer them away from their commitment to the party. He assured them of his continued support and involvement in helping the party regain its strength and focus in time for the upcoming 2027 elections.

Ikpeazu also encouraged PDP members to stand firm and not abandon the party during difficult times, as he reminded them of the pivotal role the PDP has played in his political career. He reassured them that loyalty and commitment would ultimately pay off when the party regained its position of power. He called for unity, urging members to focus on the long-term goal of restoring the PDP to its rightful place in Nigerian politics.
Addressing the wave of defections following the party’s loss to the Labour Party in 2023, he urged PDP members, particularly those from Obingwa, to stay focused and undeterred. While acknowledging the party’s struggles and the challenges it faced, he emphasized that those who remained committed would be well-positioned to benefit when the PDP eventually regained its strength and relevance in Nigerian politics.
Ikpeazu also commended the newly appointed State Working Committee led by Abraham Amah, expressing his confidence in Amah's leadership and his ability to guide the PDP back to power in 2027. He noted that the party's recovery depended on a strong and effective leadership, and he believed that Amah and his team had the vision and determination to steer the PDP toward victory in the upcoming elections.
