Unknown gunmen have carried out a tragic attack, killing three siblings in Nnewichi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Reports indicate that the victims, a five-year-old boy and his two sisters, aged seven and nine, were murdered while they were having a meal inside their home.
According to sources, the attackers entered the residence while the children were eating, brutally killed them, and later placed their lifeless bodies inside a deep freezer located in one of the rooms of the house.
An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, recounted the events leading up to the heartbreaking discovery. The children’s mother, Chikazor Ejezie, a lecturer and a nurse, had left home earlier in the day for an examination. Their father, Ejezie Udochukwu, was also away in Edo State for work when the unfortunate incident took place.
The eyewitness explained, “When the mother returned home, she noticed something unusual—the house was left wide open. This was strange because the children always ensured that the doors were locked whenever they stepped out.”
“A frantic search began, with their mother looking around the house and the neighborhood. The search extended to the church where the children served as altar boys and girls, but there was no sign of them,” the eyewitness added.
After a thorough search, the shocking reality was uncovered. The children’s lifeless bodies were discovered inside the deep freezer. The discovery confirmed that they had been killed and hidden in an attempt to conceal the crime.
The bereaved father, Ejezie Udochukwu, who was in Edo State at the time of the incident, recalled receiving a distressing call from his wife informing him of the tragedy. Without hesitation, he immediately traveled back to Nnewichi upon hearing the devastating news.
Describing the gruesome discovery, he stated, “When my wife returned home, she could not find the children. She and others began searching, hoping to find them safe. They checked everywhere, including the church where they usually assisted as altar servers, but there was no sign of them.”
“After searching for a long time and growing more desperate, they decided to check the deep freezer. It was then that their lifeless bodies were found inside. Our home is a bungalow, and we share it with two tenants and our landlord. The children were in the middle of their meal when the intruders struck. Their plates of food were still on the table, as if they had left in a hurry,” he explained in a sorrowful tone.
The grieving father confirmed that their bodies have since been deposited in the morgue, while the case has been officially reported to the Central Police Station in Nnewi. Law enforcement officials have assured the family that they are conducting a thorough investigation into the killings to uncover those responsible for the heinous act.
Speaking on the matter, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident, stating that the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has ordered an immediate and full-scale investigation into the case. The authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure that such a gruesome act does not go unpunished.
