The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has extended an invitation to former governor Abdullahi Ganduje to appear before them in relation to alleged bribery videos involving dollars. The chairman of the commission, Mr Muhuyi Rimingado, confirmed the invitation during a press conference in Kano. Rimingado stated that the commission expects Ganduje to present himself next week to address the ongoing investigation and clear his name. The commission has followed proper legal procedures and will provide ample opportunity for the former governor to defend himself.
Rimingado addressed allegations made by the Coalition for Northern Civil Society Groups, claiming that the investigation was initiated to discredit Ganduje and prevent him from obtaining federal appointments. Rimingado simply stated that the "facts speak for themselves." He explained that although the commission had expressed its intention to investigate since the emergence of the video in 2018, Ganduje enjoyed immunity as governor, limiting the commission's actions. However, with the former governor no longer holding immunity, the investigation has been reopened to give him an opportunity to provide clarification regarding the videos, which have caused embarrassment to the state and its citizens internationally.
The PCACC chairman urged all residents of the state who possess relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation, assuring them that their identities would be protected. Rimingado also called upon the residents and civil society organizations to support the commission's efforts in combating corruption in the state by providing any necessary information related to corrupt practices. He emphasized that justice would be served regardless of the individuals involved.
