The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced the deployment of 1500 personnel and 25 patrol vehicles to Ondo State in preparation for the upcoming Nov. 16 governorship election. The Corps Marshal of FRSC, Malam Shehu Mohammed, gave approval for the mobilization of these personnel and vehicles, aiming to ensure smooth operations during the electoral process.
In an official statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC boss outlined the agency’s strategy to enforce movement restrictions and uphold other electoral laws during the election. The deployment of these resources is a crucial part of the effort to maintain order and security on the roads and around polling stations.
According to the directive, officers and personnel of the FRSC are to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure that all regulations are adhered to, including restrictions on vehicular movement during the election. In addition, the Corps has been tasked with clearing obstructions from the roads, assisting with emergency rescue operations if needed, and helping to maintain peace and order at polling stations throughout the day.
Malam Shehu Mohammed emphasized the importance of professionalism among the FRSC personnel during this deployment. He advised them to be diligent in carrying out their duties while ensuring they avoid any actions that could be seen as infringing on the rights of the voters. The goal is to ensure a smooth electoral process with minimal disruptions or issues on the roads and in the communities where elections will take place.
In addition to the 1500 personnel and 25 patrol vehicles, the FRSC has also mobilized 7 tow trucks and 6 ambulances. These resources will be deployed to strengthen enforcement efforts and provide assistance in case of any emergencies that may arise before, during, or after the election. The FRSC assured the public that adequate preparations have been made to safeguard the safety and security of the electorate throughout the election period.
Malam Shehu Mohammed concluded by reassuring the people of Ondo State that they should not feel apprehensive about casting their votes. The FRSC is committed to ensuring that the election process is safe, orderly, and peaceful for all participants, and urged citizens to come out in full confidence and exercise their right to vote without fear.
