The Ebute Ero market, located in Lagos State, has experienced a devastating fire outbreak, leading to significant damage and losses.
This incident was confirmed in an official statement released by the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, on Saturday. According to the statement, the fire started in the early hours of the morning at the market, which is situated near the Police Station adjacent to Carter Bridge on Lagos Island.
Adeseye highlighted the timely intervention of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, emphasizing that their swift response played a critical role in containing the fire. Their efforts successfully prevented the fire from spreading to other areas, thereby minimizing the extent of the damage caused.
“Although the fire has now been extinguished, it has resulted in the destruction of several lock-up shops located within the bungalow structures of the market. These shops are known to deal in a variety of tools and kitchenware,” the statement revealed.
Adeseye also disclosed that an enumeration process is currently underway. This assessment aims to ascertain the exact number of shops that were affected by the fire and to estimate the total value of the losses incurred by traders and shop owners at the market.
