Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has shared a startling account of how one of the church’s pastors abroad was arrested for allegedly using discriminatory language. This alarming story was shared during the church’s monthly Thanksgiving service at the Throne of Grace, RCCG‘s national headquarters in Lagos.
Pastor Adeboye revealed that the preacher was apprehended after greeting a gathering with the phrase, “ladies and gentlemen,” which some attendees deemed offensive, citing the exclusion of those who do not identify as either male or female. The pastor’s use of the traditional greeting, which has been commonplace for years, became the subject of controversy when some individuals filed complaints, stating that it was discriminatory towards those who identify outside the binary gender framework.
“The end is nearer than you think. Things are getting worse, and this is a wake-up call. One of my pastors abroad was arrested for simply addressing a gathering as ‘ladies and gentlemen.’ Some people reported him for discrimination, asking, ‘What about those who are neither ladies nor gentlemen?’” Pastor Adeboye stated, emphasizing the growing trend of sensitivity around gender identity issues and the challenges it presents for those upholding traditional values.
The clergyman also recounted another disturbing story that highlighted the erosion of moral values in society. He shared the bizarre case of a woman who referred to her dog as her husband. When questioned about her spouse, the woman responded, “I took him to the vet before coming. He doesn’t talk,” implying that her "husband" was a dog. This unusual situation left Pastor Adeboye deeply concerned about the moral decline he perceives in modern society.
Pastor Adeboye expressed his growing concern for the future, viewing these incidents as signs of the end times. He urged Christians to take these developments seriously and remain steadfast in their faith. “Those of you already in Christ, take this matter seriously. Do not let anyone weaken your stand. God is holy. Those still playing church—singing, clapping, and enjoying things without genuine commitment—remember, Jesus is coming back. The devil wants to harvest you, but you must not give him the opportunity. I want to see you in my Father’s house,” he said, stressing the importance of maintaining a strong and committed relationship with God amidst the challenges of modern society.
