This announcement was made by the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, during his address at the opening of the 6th Annual Criminal Law Review Conference, which was organized by the Rule of Law Development Foundation in Abuja.

In his speech, Olukoyede revealed that the dismissals occurred two weeks prior to the event. He strongly emphasized the importance of ensuring that those tasked with combating corruption are themselves free from any form of misconduct or malpractice.

The EFCC Chairman explained his rationale for the decision, stating: “You can’t be fighting corruption, and your hands are dirty. He who comes to equity must have clean hands. Therefore, any staff members found guilty of misconduct will face not only dismissal but also prosecution, as that is the same standard we hold others to.”

Olukoyede added that case files are already being prepared for the prosecution of those who were dismissed. He reassured the public that integrity remains a non-negotiable trait for anyone working within the EFCC, especially given the agency's critical role in fighting corruption in Nigeria.

Reflecting on his own experience, the EFCC Chairman disclosed that he had undergone a rigorous two-year investigation during his tenure as the EFCC secretary. This, he noted, is a testament to the agency's dedication to accountability, even at the highest levels. He reiterated that surviving in the legal profession, particularly in roles like his, requires unwavering integrity.

Additionally, Olukoyede announced a new directive aimed at streamlining prosecutions by limiting the number of charges in any case to a maximum of 15 counts. He explained that this reform is part of the agency's broader efforts to improve efficiency and effectiveness in its legal proceedings.

In conclusion, the EFCC Chairman reaffirmed his commitment to implementing reforms and maintaining the credibility of the commission, ensuring that it upholds its mandate to fight corruption without compromise.
