The residents of Edo State are set to benefit from free rides across the state, including in three Senatorial districts and the Benin metropolis. This new initiative was announced by the State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, on Tuesday. The Governor emphasized that this move is in line with his administration’s broader strategy to improve transportation accessibility and ease the burden of travel for Edo residents.
The free transportation services will be operated through the Edo City Transport Service and will encompass both intra and intercity routes. The coverage will extend to the Benin metropolis as well as the three Senatorial districts, providing residents with a reliable and cost-free means of transport. Governor Okpebholo highlighted that this scheme is designed to alleviate transportation stress, particularly for those who need to move around the city and surrounding regions without the worry of extra financial costs.
In the statement, Governor Okpebholo mentioned that key locations such as Ekpoma, Iruekpen, Irrua, Uromi, and other places in the Edo Central district would be included in the service routes. He also confirmed that Edo North would be fully covered, including towns such as Agbede, Auchi, Okpella, Fugar, and more. The Governor expressed confidence that this initiative would greatly benefit the people of Edo, ensuring that they can travel freely across these areas without the added financial burden of transport costs. This initiative aligns with his vision of making transportation more accessible and affordable for the citizens of Edo State.
