According to reports, Augustus, a content creator and graduate of the University of Uyo, was apprehended on Thursday at his residence on Akpan Eno Street in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The DSS revealed that Augustus had created a fake version of its official website, using it to advertise a non-existent recruitment exercise. His actions targeted unsuspecting individuals, offering false promises of job opportunities, and involved collecting payments from job seekers under the guise of processing their applications.

Reports indicate that the DSS had earlier issued a disclaimer to warn the public about the fraudulent recruitment announcement, urging them to disregard the fake website and any associated information. However, many were already affected by the scam.

A source from the DSS confirmed the arrest, telling Vanguard, “The suspect is currently in custody and will be arraigned in court soon.” This marks another significant move by the DSS in its ongoing efforts to curb cybercrime and fraudulent activities aimed at exploiting citizens.

In a separate development, the Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of a police officer linked to a viral video showing naira abuse. The video involved the sons of Lagos businessman, Chief Rasaq Okoya. The Police stated that the officer in question has been identified, detained for disciplinary action, and described the conduct as unethical and contrary to the core values of the Force.
