A truck driver, identified as Olalere Timileyin, and his conductor have been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly beating a man to death in a disturbing incident.
The incident was confirmed in a statement released by the spokesperson for the Command, SP Omolola Odutola, on Saturday. According to the statement, the unfortunate event stemmed from accusations of theft.
The statement revealed that the truck driver and his conductor had allegedly assaulted the victim over allegations that he had stolen a tarpaulin. The assault reportedly continued until the victim became unconscious, eventually leading to his tragic death.
Further details were shared by one Alao Fadipe, a resident of Iyana Ikereku, who reported the incident to the police around 3 am on Friday, December 13. Fadipe recounted how he witnessed the events unfolding in front of his house and immediately reported the matter to the authorities.
Fadipe claimed that upon reaching the scene of the altercation, he observed that Timileyin, who works as a truck driver associated with a cement factory located in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area, and his conductor were actively assaulting the man accused of stealing the tarpaulin. Despite efforts to intervene, the victim eventually succumbed to the injuries inflicted during the brutal attack.
The Ogun State Police Command has since launched an investigation into the matter, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring justice for the deceased and holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
